Ciudad Sahagún

Hidalgo

The state of Hidalgo is also industrial. Ciudad Sahagún came up precisely thanks to this activity in the 1950s by President Miguel Alemán order. The intention was that it would become a replicative model in different places in Mexico.

Ciudad Sahagún is in Hidalgo southeast and is part of the Tepeapulco municipality. To get there you can drive for an hour from Mexico City. It's a 45 minutes road trip from Pachuca, Hidalgo’s capital; one hour 15 minutes from Tlaxcala and one hour 40 minutes from downtown Puebla.

Ciudad Sahagún is mild—its average temperature throughout the year is 14º C, with cold winters reaching 10º C, and rain mostly from May to June. The industrial city building plan included houses for the employees of the industrial parks, plants and factories. For this reason the first Ciudad Sahagún settlers were people of different parts of Hidalgo and other points from Mexico.

Its official name is Ciudad Fray Bernardino de Sahagún and, despite its few years, it shares history and attractions with Tepeapulco, as well as places for outdoor activities.

During October’s second week, its foundation anniversary is celebrated in the Plaza Rodrigo Gómez. December 12th is also an important date for locals, since the Virgin of Guadalupe is the workers’ protector, so there is no shortage of parties, food, dance and music.
