Barra Vieja

Acapulco

This solitary beach marks the end of Acapulco bay right by the Zona Punta Diamante (Diamond point area).

It gets its fame from the “enramadas” (houses built of interlaced tree branches). Here, the locals' specialty is the famous “pescado a la talla, which is fish cooked on the fire covered with a secret sauce of various chilies. Each person can select the size of their fish or ask for fresh fish just taken from the sea.

While the delicacy leaves the fire, the travelers take time to refresh in the swimming pools installed in each restaurant. Travelers also take the oportunity to ride waves on a boogieboard, while others may rent ATVs, do some horseback riding, or rent a boat and navigate towards the Tres Palos lagoon.

In this area are the beaches “Bonfil” and “Revolcadero” known for its gray sands and being one of the best spots to admire the sunset. In the begining of November, the sunset spectacle is accompanied by jumps and flips of the ballenas jorobadas (humpback whales) and baby turtle release.

Very close is the turtle farm “Playa Hermosa” which offers night patrols to protect the nests.

Travel Tip: There are no hotels at Barra Vieja so it´s recommended to book hotels from Punta Diamante.
