Hot springs

San Miguel de Allende

The hot springs flowing throughout San Miguel de Allende are a result of seismic activity, which used to exist in the region. The city can therefore be considered a sanctuary of wellness, as bathing in hot springs is believed to promote increased oxygenation of the body and can be an alternative treatment for ailments such as dermatitis and rheumatism, among others.

There are three hot spring sites in San Miguel de Allende that you can visit for an utterly relaxing day out. Escondido Place is classified as a “conceptual park.” It consists of a variety of indoor and outdoor pools -some of which are interconnected- where you can enjoy the hot springs and their diverse surroundings. For instance, during the tour, you can take in the tiling or the huge rocks with aquifer runoff. It's also family-friendly, as there are kiddie pools for the little ones.

La Gruta is a health resort/spa about 20 minutes from the center of San Miguel de Allende, where the main attractions are the open-air hot springs. However, there is also a very special spot with soft lighting nestled in a small grotto; it feels like being in a steam room. There's even a strong jet of water to relieve the tension in your back.

Lastly, the Xote Water Park is the oldest hot spring site in San Miguel de Allende, having opened in the early 1970s. The biggest advantage of Xote is that there are water slides and temazcal baths (Mayan steam baths). It's located on the road leading to Dolores Hidalgo.
