Moroleón

To get to know the traditions of towns and little cities, you have to explore them from its heart, this is why we recommend you to start the tour from the Jardin Principal, here you will have the best view of the kiosque that makes a perfect match with the architecture of The Chapel of the Lord of the Esquipulitas.

The Jardin Principal is a place for strolling and rest in the shade of the threes. In a sunny days you can find several shops where you can find different products and crafts, eat or enjoy a coffee.

The design of the The Chapel of the Lord of the Esquipulitas will remind you a little about the Expiatory Temple of Leon in Guanajuato, the reason of this is that both constructions are inspired in the Gothic architectural style.

The image of the Lord of the Esquipulitas –a Black Christ replica that is in Guatemala– came to Moroleon by accident, since Alonso de Velasco, its sculptor, had the intention to take it to Real de Minas of Santa Fe in Guanajuato.

In the last stage of his trip, Velasco Got sick, but the poeple from La Congregación, opened its doors and helped him. Before dying, Velasco decided that the image should remain in this place.
