One of these wonders is Moroleon, a city of an incredible architecture, surrounded by nature and famous for its clothing industry.
Moroleon is located south of Guanajuato state over a watershed formed by the Hills of the Sierra Piñicuaro. Its neighbour municipalities are Yuriria and Uriangato, besides it adjoins Michoacan state.
If you come by car you will have to drive for about 55 minutes from Morelia, Michoacán; one hour and 20 minutes from Celaya, Guanajuato; one hour 45 minutes from the capital, Guanajuato, one hour and 50 minutes from Querétaro and 3 hours and 50 minutes coming from Mexico City.
Weather at Moroleón, Guanajuato, is warm most of the year with an average weather of 26º C. The hottest months are from April to June, when temperature can get as high as 30º C. The rainy season is moderate and from November to February you‘ll find fresh weather.
The soil in this city is rich, for this reason its economy is based on farming. However, clothing industry
have put Moroleon on the map of traders from all over the world and to the families that seek quality, good prices and be in fashion.
Moroleon’s name comes from “moro” and from “Leon”, a homage both to its firsts inhabitants and to the general Antonio de Leon, who was in charge of the cavalry of Guanajuato. The origin of the founders of Moroleon –that in the year 1929 received the city rank– was the Hacienda of Santa Monica in the neighbouring municipality of Uriangato.
The lands in which the city was established were given to Juana of Medina and Calderón in the year 1601 and, its inheritor was who established a hamlet where now the main garden is located. This way in 1775 new settlers arrived here. They were known as La Congregación.
