Diego Rivera's Home Museum

Guanajuato

On December 8th of 1886, Diego Rivera was born in a house located at 47 Positos Street in Guanajuato. In this residence, the Mexican muralist lived a great part of his childhood before moving to Mexico City.

The house, which was on the verge of collapse for some years, was recovered by Diego’s Rivera daughter, Guadalupe Rivera Marín, who, with the support of different institutions, managed to restore it. Around 1975 the “Museo Casa Diego Rivera” was officially inaugurated.

The tour of Diego's house will transport you back in time as its bedrooms were redecorated with items from the muralist's childhood. Take a look at his parents' room, his aunt's room, the dining room, and his studio.

There is a small collection of Rivera's works, among them a series of watercolors that he made to capture the Paricutín eruption in Michoacán, as well as drawings by Frida Kahlo and Dolores Olmedo.
