Toluca

When you open an attractions Toluca map, immediately the 1867 Cathedral of San José highlights, erected on a former 16th century Franciscan convent for rekindling people’s faith after the Independence war. To one side, the Templo de la Santa Veracruz protects a black Christ anointed with red wine every Holy Wednesday.

Other important sites are museums and Toluca is the second city in Mexico with the largest number of these cultural venues—24 in total. The one of Bellas Artes, inside the Exconvento de la Purísima Concepción (Ex-Convent of La Purísima Concepción), is among the most visited. A big part of its collection is dedicated to the sacred art and pictorial work of José de la Vega and Miguel Cabrera y Villalpando.

The Museo de Antropología e Historia (Museum of Anthropology and History) is also recommended to visit—it brings together the greatest finds from the Zona Arqueológica de Malinalco (archaeological zone of Malinalco). For José Guadalupe Posada, Salvador Dalí and Rufino Tamayo followers is the Museo de la Estampa.

Toluca city also has a Museo de la Acuarela (Watercolor Museum) and, as a symbol of modern architecture, the Museo Torres Bicentenario, represented by two intertwined towers to discover the history of the State of Mexico.
