National Museum of the Viceroyalty

Tepotzotlán

The construction of the enclosure that today houses the National Museum of the Viceroyalty, in Tepotzotlán, State of Mexico, is due to the religious of the Society of Jesus who arrived at their destination with the aim of establishing a novitiate in the 18th century.

The museum has a collection of sacred art that ranges from painting, sculpture, minor and applied arts. Walk through the first cloister and discover the Patio de los Aljibes with 16 oil paintings made by Cristóbal de Villalpando, a painter from New Spain, who captured passages from the life of San Ignacio de Loyola.

The museography will take you through different periods from the travels of Christopher Columbus to the route of Cortés, the conquest and the styles developed in the country from these historical events.
