MUSAVE (Bird Museum)

Saltillo

El Museo de las Aves (“The Bird Museum” or MUSAVE by its acronym) in Mexico opened its doors at the end of 1993 with a small collection of stuffed birds that belonged to Aldegundo Garza de León, with which he decided to start the Bird Room inside his house. As time went by, this place became so popular that the state government ended up giving away the building of the Antiguo Colegio de San Juan to develop a museum there much more in line with the needs of the public.

Currently it exhibits more than three thousand specimens of stuffed birds and is considered one of the most important worldwide in its specialty, since it has a particularity: it is the only one in the world focused exclusively on the birds that inhabit the entire Mexican territory or that arrive there due to migration, which represents 73% of all birds in Mexico.

Dare to visit this building that under its motto “Know to value and conserve”, will take you flying to recognize each of the fundamental roles that these animals play within the ecosystem as pollination or pest control, as well as discover ways to help their preservation.
