Matamoros

The vestiges that tell the past of Matamoros, Coahuila, are found in the historical center that, like the great majority of the small towns begins with the main square, known as Plaza de Armas that serves as a meeting point to rest or simply to meet with family and friends.

In a city like this it is important to visit its religious centers to learn more about its origins, so include in your itinerary a stop at El Templo de Nuestra Señora de la Salud (Our Lady of Health Temple) and La Parroquia de San Antonio de los Milagros (San Antonio of the Miracles Parish Church).

One of the jewels of this city is the public clock that dates back to 1927. It is said that it was built to celebrate the fact that Matamoros obtained the title of city in that year, so it is made of red bricks like the ones baked in the ovens in the north of the city.

Brick production is one of the main activities in the area since clay is a natural resource that can be found in the surrounding area. This economic activity was formalized when German technology was installed to operate the brick kilns at the beginning of the 20th century. These are still active and it is a process worth knowing.
