Arteaga

Although we might think that Parras is the only wine-growing area in Coahuila state, that’s a mistake, so Arteaga’s mineral-rich soils are also blessed by the vine. In the Pueblo Mágico vicinity there are two vineyards that you should not miss.

Los Cedros is a winery located at 2000 meters (656 ft) above sea level. That’s why they’ve called their productions “high level wines”. Advised by one of the most important winemaking houses in the country, Casa Madero, Los Cedros specializes in Malbec and Pinot Noir wines, although they also produce Chardonnay rosé and white wines.

Its vineyard is open to the public to see the winemaking processes, as well as to take tours around the countryside.

Las Bodegas del Viento is considered a boutique winery, due to its exclusive and limited Shiraz, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon wines production. It’s a family project where the traveler not only knows its vineyards, but also takes a ranch tour that includes wines and charcuterie boards tastings. Whoever wishes can have a photo session in their full of barrels cellar and a courtesy bottle of wine.

Bodegas del Viento receives this name because the Sierra Arteaga was inhabited by the Huachichiles, who had a great devotion for the wind God. As an oblation, the ethnic group offered their rivals’ ashes, letting them fly through the air.
