La Prieta Mine

Parral

A black silver stone found in 1631 by the Ensign Juan Rangel de Biezma immediately resulted in the foundation of a city, the opening of a very rich mine and the birth of a legend that assures that the military man actually saw a very beautiful brunette girl on the hill with whom he fell in love and for that reason he baptized the mine as La Negrita, which would later derive into La Prieta.

The deposit was active for 345 years until the water draining off the stones made its exploitation impossible. At present, the mine has been turned into a museum whose aim is to show the mining activity that generated the boom in the region during colonial times.

During the visit, it is possible to obtain information about the techniques used to extract the minerals and go back in time to understand what the life of the people who worked there was like.
