Pedro Alvarado was one of the richest miners in Chihuahua, owner of the La Palmilla mine. Between 1899 and 1904 he had his residence built in the downtown area of Parral.
The eclectic style mansion located on Calle Riva Palacio 2 - which mixes elements of the Baroque, Renaissance and Neoclassical - was equipped with furniture brought directly from Europe and with all kinds of luxurious amenities.
Today the building is known as Palacio Alvarado (“Alvarado Palace”) and has been converted into a museum and cultural centre. The museum rooms, located around a central courtyard with a fountain, exhibit furniture made of fine materials, armor, musical instruments, silverware, vases and family portraits.
