To get inside the majesty of Barrancas del Cobre we recommend you to jump into El Chepe (Chihuahua-Pacific), one of the few passengers trains in Mexico. This relic of railway engineering has been in the works for over half a century and not long ago went through a remodeling process to offer much more comfort to its travelers.

El Chepe runs 434 miles from the Costa Pacifica to the Tierras altas del Norte de Mexico. So make sure you wake up early because the train's departure is before dawn. Do not fall asleep! On the way, you can observe how, slowly, the train enters the Sierra Tarahumara and before you, spectacular semi-desert landscapes will be revealed.

While you observe the scenery change, walk along the train wagons or sit down and enjoy having a breakfast in the dining wagon with homemade dishes elaborated with products from the region. After that, go to the junctions between the wagons, to find the best spot for amazing pictures!

El Chepe runs its full journey in 14 straight hours, joining Los Monchis city with Chihuahua. We recommend that, when you get your ticket, remember to stop by a couple of the small towns like Creel and Posadas de la Barranca that offer amazing views.

There is where you can delve deep into the Tarahumara culture, talking to its locals, also known as Rarámuris, a community that has preserved its language and culture since before the Spanish conquest.

Even though the train makes 12 continuous stops, they are only for the ascent and descent of passengers. In Divisadero, is possible to get down for 15 minutes to walk towards the viewpoint from where you will get unforgettable views of the canyons.
