La Pila Neighborhood

Comitán

This neighborhood is known for being the place where San Caralampio is venerated, to whom its inhabitants, attribute the water supply to him through his font, a liquid that they assure has never lacked thanks to the protection of the saint.

It is said among the locals that he arrived thanks to a soldier who carried him on the cover of a novena of the “Mártir Caralampio”, where the character could be seen kneeling and at the front a Roman determined to decapitate him.

Some time later, a neighbor decided to copy the cover and put it in a painting, which he placed in the neighborhood. In that same year, smallpox and cholera invaded Comitán, but miraculously no one in the area was infected. Since then, San Caralampio has been known as the saint against the plague and contagion. The temple is located 5 minutes from the park.
