Palizada

The Historic Centre of Palizada is surrounded by three parks: Benito Juarez, La Madre (Mother's) and Parque Libertad (Liberty Park) which owes its name to the fact that it has a replica of the famous Statue of Liberty in New York, USA.

Around Benito Juarez Park, Palizada's main park, you'll find shops and restaurants to enjoy traditional dishes such as pochitoque en verde, hicotea en estofado, mondongo, pejelagarto empanadas and frijol con puerco. Don't forget to try the ice creams made with natural fruits.

The oldest building in town is the Iglesia de San Joaquín (“San Joaquin Church”). It dates back to 1792 and its roof, like that of practically all the buildings, is made of red tiles from Marseille. In fact, the first name of this small town was San Joaquín de la Palotada.
