Haciendas

Hopelchén

Hopelchén is an area of haciendas and, at present, some of these buildings full of stories are still standing ready to receive visitors who want to know them.

One of these is the Hacienda of San Antonio Yaxché, which in English means “green wood”. This hacienda, set up to trade products, awaits visitors who want to relive their most active period.

One of the structures still preserved is the great arch next to the main house, the same one that has received all visitors since its foundation.

Another hacienda you can visit is the Dzibalchén, a place where they processed chili peppers and wood for trade in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its name in English means “Written well” because of a stele with inscriptions that were found inside a well in the region. Inside you can see a series of paintings that tell the history of the town.
