Real de Asientos

Aguascalientes

Real de Asientos is the oldest municipality in the state, but also the first to be named Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) in all of Aguascalientes. Its small extension is substantial in history and as a destination, it has experiences that will surprise you like no other.

It is located 60 kilometers (37 miles) northeast of the state capital. So if you arrive from Aguascalientes, it will take you 1 hour and 10 minutes by car. If you leave from Zacatecas, the trip takes 1 hour and 45 minutes and it is 108 kilometers (67 miles) away . Another nearby city is León, Guanajuato, with a distance of 170 kilometers (105 miles) and a 2 hours and 45 minutes drive.

Real de Asientos, Pueblo Mágico, was an important mining town, which is why once you’re there you will see establishments, streets and vestiges that evoke the profession.

Its original name was “Real de los Asientos de Ibarra”, in honor of Francisco and Diego Ibarra, two of the four Spaniards who founded the site in 1548. Exactly, that's what we mean by ancient!

As if it were a film set, the city welcomes you with a particular charm that translates into contrasts. Walking through its streets, you are likely to come across authentic old carriages, parked next to late-model cars.

Something you will love about Asientos is its tunnels, which were built to protect the structure of the Parish Church from water leaks, and although some of them are closed for good, there are others you can visit so you don't get stuck.
