Veracruz’s most famous dish is the delicious tamal. It is made of a corn-based dough and stuffed with chicken, mole, meat or other ingredients. The dough is then wrapped in banana leaves and steamed to perfection. Tamales are often served with traditional sauces such as guajillo or chile de arbol.

Another delicious delicacy is the chilpachole which consists of a broth made with chilpaya chili (a small, particularly spicy fruit) to which crab and various spices are added. The resulting flavor is incomparable.
