Due to its vast cultural heritage, the city of Xalapa was declared a Historic and Artistic Monuments Zone by the Mexican government in 1990.

Enjoy a delicious breakfast of huevos tirados –scrambled eggs with beans and cheese– accompanied by a hot cup of coffee.

After breakfast, visit the buildings in the Historic Center of Xalapa. These architectural beauties are preserved as jewels of history. A must see is the Museum of Anthropology, with a large collection of pre-Columbian vestiges, considered the second most important museum in Mexico.

If you are passionate about museums and historic monuments, visit the UV Radio Auditorium, the Agora of the City, the Rafael Solana Auditorium and the Open Forum of the Agora. If you are interested in the viceregal period, take a tour by the Casa de Xalapa Museum or the San Rafael Guizar y Valencia Museum. If you love modern art, visit places like the Diego Rivera Pinacoteca or the Contemporary Art Gallery Auditorium. You may pick up a souvenir for your loved ones at Galeria de Artesanias (Gallery of Handicrafts) where you will find the best pieces in the area.

In the afternoon, enjoy a mestizo dish. Taste the traditional pre-Columbian cuisine and awaken your palate. Ask for the traditional dessert called espuma de manzana al cafe. Have a seat and admire the atmosphere in one of the colorful parks, or stroll through the cosmopolitan streets full of art, college life and coffee aroma.
