Mangroves in Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco
According to the legend, a farmer in the area did not know whether to pay the taxes of his property to the government of Mexico or to the United States, because Rio Bravo had deviated from its channel and part of his property had been divided between the two countries.
The rest is history: an international controversy of great historical importance with a happy ending, the only territory returned by the United States to Mexico. That one and half km² of Chamizal area and approximately twenty-eight hectares of the adjacent Cordoba Island are now a day part of the federal public park El Chamizal in the north of Ciudad Juarez.
