The Sea of Cortez has 244 islands, islets and coastal zones in the states of Baja California Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa and Nayarit. There are 4,500 species of marine creatures, 181 species of birds and 695 species of plants. Around 40% of all marine mammal species and 30% of cetacean species that exist in the world call the Sea of Cortez home. It is also the only place in the world where you can experience underwater sand waterfalls.
