MUSEUMS
Veracruz?s museums have some of the
port?s most representative elements on display: they chronicle the history of
the Mexican Navy, offer exhibits depicting the lives of composer Agustin Lara
and poet Salvador Diaz Miron and showcase the state
of Veracruz?s art and culture, among other
exhibits.
Museo de PEMEX.
Located on Arista Street, on the
corner of Francisco Hernandez y Hernandez. This edifice, which was once
the office building of the Banco de Mexico, has a
series of sculptures made by Francisco Zuniga.
Museo Historico Naval.
Located on Arista Street, on the corner of Morelos, two blocks south of the boardwalk. The 11
showrooms here have a display depicting the history of the Mexican Navy. The
museum also has temporary exhibits, a library and an auditorium. Open Tuesday
through Sunday from 9:00 to 5:00.
Baluarte de Santiago.
Located on the corners of Canal Street and 16 de Septiembre.
This is the only remaining bastion of nine bulwarks that once protected the
port from pirate attacks from the 16th to 19th centuries.
Here you?ll see precious treasure pieces that make up a collection known as Las
Joyas del Pescador. Open
Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 6:30.
Casa Museo Agustin Lara.
Located on Adolfo Ruiz Cortines Blvd, at Manuel Avila
Camacho Blvd. This was once the house of famous Mexican composer Agustin Lara.
In the museum you?ll see photos, original furniture and a replica of radio
studio XEW, where they recorded Lara?s compositions. Open Tuesday through
Saturday from 10:00 to 7:30 and Sunday from 10:00 to 3:00.
