The surrounding areas of Pachuca offer a wide array of ecosystems with diverse flora and fauna and unparalleled landscapes.

 

Parque EcoAlberto ? Located 85 km (53 mi) northwest of Pachuca and 12 km (7 mi) from the town of Ixmiquilpan, off the Ixmiquilpan-Chilcuatla Highway. Known for it wide variety of microclimates, at this park you can observe various species, such as cetaceans, millennium-aged coniferous trees, willows, coyotes, foxes, turtles, badgers, owls, squirrels, bighorn sheep, birds and fish.

 

El Chico National Park ? Located 24 km (15 mi) north of Pachuca, south of the town of Mineral del Chico. At this park, which extends across an area of 2739 hectares (6,756 acres), you can explore mountainous terrain covered with pine, oak and fir forests. Here you?ll see a wide variety of indigenous fauna, small valleys with curious rock formations and steeps with spectacular lookouts.

 

Prismas Basalticos ? Located near Santa Maria Regla, 34 km (21 mi) northeast of Pachuca. Here you can see columns of prism-shaped basaltic rock formations, as well as a spectacular 30-meter (100-foot) waterfall.

 

Peñas Cargadas ? Located 28 km (17 mi) east of Pachuca, off Highway 105 in the direction of Tampico. If you?d like to do an interesting ecotourism outing, at this place you?ll find fascinating basaltic rock formations.
