Juan Carlos Rulfo regresa a Rulfo

Juan Carlos Rulfo, autor de documentales como En el hoyo (2006), afirmó que realizará una nueva obra en torno a su padre, el escritor Juan Rulfo, autor del clásico universal Pedro Páramo. De acuerdo a lo reportado por Noticias 22 el proyecto será considerado la segunda parte del documental Del olvido al no me acuerdo, documental filmado hace diez años en Llano Grande, Jalisco, de donde la familia Rulfo es originaria y en la cual el cineasta realizó una serie de entrevistas a distintas personas que conocieron de un modo u otro a Juan Rulfo. De acuerdo a lo reportado, el cineasta realizará "un próximo viaje a la tierra de Juan Rulfo en donde entrevistará a las nuevas generaciones e indagará sobre cómo las costumbres y tradiciones de los viejos se encuentran presentes o no en los jóvenes", de acuerdo a lo informado para Dpa en Morelia, Michocán, durante la presentación de su documental más reciente, Los que se quedan, un vistazo a las familias de las persona que migran hacia los Estados Unidos en busca de trabajo. De acuerdo a lo afirmado por el cineasta, con la segunda parte buscará incorporar la gran cantidad de material que dejó fuera de Del olvido al no me acuerdo.

Se acerca Aquí se filmó

Del 13 de noviembre al 11 de diciembre se llevará a cabo el ciclo Aquí se filmó, en el cual, de acuerdo a lo reportado por Julieta Riveroll para el diario Reforma, "se exhibirán 10 películas gratuitamente en los sitios que les sirvieron de locación". Entre las películas que se exhibirán en el marco del ciclo se encuentran Párpados Azules, De veras me atrapaste, Cilantro y Perejil, Elisa antes del fin del mundo, Lolo, Él y Los Caifanes. El ciclo es una colaboración entre las instituciones Circo 2.12 AC, la Secretaría de Cultura capitalina y el Fideicomiso Centro Histórico. Paula Astorga, quien se encuentra al frente de Circo 2.12 AC, afirmó para el diario Reforma: "Quisimos hablar del cine como parte de la memoria tangible de la Ciudad con magníficos directores y miradas de productores que han creído en construir l identidad nacional a partir de esta disciplina". Cada de una de las locaciones en las que se proyectarán películas, y donde se filmaron, tendrán una placa conmemorativa. Astorga afirmó al respecto: "Es una herencia para las siguientes generaciones y para quienes rehabiten esos lugares". Las proyecciones contarán con la participación de miembros de la producción quienes hablarán sobre sus obras. (En imagen, Párpados azules)

Los abrazos rotos en la Cineteca

La 51 Muestra Internacional de Cine de la Cineteca Nacional comienza este jueves 5 con la película que abre el ciclo: Los abrazos rotos, del cineasta manchego Pedro Almodóvar. El filme que se presentó este año en Cannes y en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia en octubre, se presentará hasta el 10 de noviembre en la muestra. El personaje principal del filme es un director de cine que se caracteriza por usar dos nombres, Harry Cainesu, su seudónimo, y Mateo Blanco, su nombre real, con el que vive y firma las películas que dirige. Después de un accidente con el cual pierde la vista y a Lena, la mujer de su vida, Mateo sólo usará el nombre de Harry Caine. Si no puede dirigir películas se abraza a la idea de que Mateo Blanco murió en Lanzarote junto a su amada. En la actualidad, Caine vive gracias a los guiones que escribe y a la ayuda de su directora de producción, Judit García, y de Diego, el hijo de ella. Una noche Diego tiene un accidente y Harry se hace cargo de él ya que su madre no se encuentra en Madrid. En las primeras noches de convalecencia, Diego le pregunta por la época en que sí reconocía el nombre de Mateo Blanco; Harry le cuenta a Diego lo ocurrido catorce años antes con la intención de entretenerle.

The Killers en México

La agrupación norteamericana The Killers, originarios de la ciudad de Las Vegas, se presentarán este fin de semana en la Ciudad de México, como parte de las fechas dedicadas a su segunda visita a nuestro país. Las ciudades que visitarán son Monterrey (en la Arena Monterrey, el 3 de noviembre) Guadalajara (en el Auditorio Telmex, este 5 noviembre), y la Ciudad de México, para la cual se abrieron dos fechas: el sábado 7 de noviembre y el domingo 8 de noviembre. En la Ciudad de México se presentarán en el Palacio de los Deportes. La agrupación presentará el material de su nueva producción Day & Age, el tercer disco, precedido por Sam?s Town y el disco debut que no han podido superar, Hot Fuss. Day & Age, en todo caso significa una distancia del sonido que ensayaron en Sam?s Town; ahora, con la ayuda del productor Stuart Price, The Killers se encuentra a caballo entre la música para bailar sin dejar reminiscencias al David Bowie de la década de 1980 o a Springsteen. Como lo puso Ryan Dombal en su reseña del disco realizada para el sitio Pitchfork, el nuevo material de la agrupación presenta a los "Killers en su mayor desenfado". OFUNAM: Cuentos de ensueño

Del 13 al 28 de noviembre se celebrará la vigésimo primera edición del Festival Internacional de Música de Morelia Miguel Bernal Jiménez, en donde el invitado de honor será el Reino Unido. Para este año, uno de los festivales de música de concierto más reconocidos en el mundo ha reunido cerca de 500 artistas en 45 conciertos. Entre los invitados se encuentran la pianista Joanna MacGregor, directora de las orquesta de cámara de la Britten Sinfonia, que inaugurará el  festival el viernes 13, en el Teatro Morelos. También representando al país invitado, se encuentra uno de los cuartetos de cuerdas más importantes de Gran Bretaña, The Brodsky Quartet (en imagen), agrupación que ha colaborado con Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello y Sting; el Coro Virum Schola Gregoriana acompañados por el maestro Giancarlo Prodi tocarán en la Catedral Metropolitana de Morelia. El Conservatorio de las Rosas, sede principal del Festival, ofrecerá cursos y clases magistrales impartidas por destacados músicos como los integrantes de la Britten Sinfonia, Morgan Szymansky, Tanya Anisimova y The Brodsky Quartet. En esta edición el Festival además tiene el honor de contar con la participación de músicos de países tan variados como Italia, Rusia, Suiza, y Holanda.

Orquesta de Cámara Britten en México

La Orquesta de Cámara de Britten Sinfonía se presentará en la Sala Nezahualcóyotl el próximo 15 de noviembre en un concierto organizado por la Dirección General de Música de la UNAM y la Anglo Mexican Foundation. En el recital se podrán disfrutar obras de Johann Sebastian Bach, John Dowland, Igor Stravinsky y Astor Piazolla, entre otros compositores. Se interpretarán: Concierto para clave no. 5, de Bach; Furlern Hope Fancy, Mr.Dowland's Midnight, Can she excuse, Concierto en Re de Stravinsky, Milonga del Angel y Libertango, entre otras. Britten Sinfonía no acostumbra trabajar con un director en específico, más bien elige colaborar con artistas que considera adecuados para cada proyecto. En esta ocasión, el ensamble estará dirigido por la pianista Joanna MacGregor y la violinista Jacqueline Shave. La orquesta ha recibido múltiples premios como el Gramophone, el Arts and Business International Award en 2008 y el premio Royal Philharmonic Society Ensemble Award. Recientemente la orquesta ha colaborado con Christopher Hogwood, James MacMillan, Joanna MacGregor, Masaaki Suzuki, Alina Ibragimova, Dhafer Youssef, entre otros; se ha presentado en importantes salas de conciertos y festivales de Europa.

Literatura en el FIP

A partir del próximo 6 de noviembre y hasta el día 15 se celebrará en la ciudad de Puebla la onceava edición del Festival Internacional de Puebla, que este año promete atender especialmente a las letras mexicanas, con un programa rico en literatura. Además de la serie de actividades culturales que se realizan en el festival (este año se espera la participación de destacados artistas provenientes de países como Estados Unidos, Japón, Rusia, Finlandia, Cuba, Irán, Canadá, Chile y Puerto Rico, en las disciplinas de música y danza), se espera la presencia de autores como Pablo Boullosa, Juan Villoro o Xavier Velasco así como la celebración de distintas actividades literarias, desde talleres hasta la presentación de novedades editoriales. Hasta este momento se ha confirmado la asistencia de al menos 232 artistas. Boullosa participará con la conferencia "Los libros, el conocimiento y nosotros," a celebrarse el día 9 de noviembre. Juan Villoro también dictará una conferencia, el día 11 de noviembre. Xavier Velasco lo hará el día 14 de noviembre. También se llevará a cabo una serie de presentaciones para niños. Hiriart, contra el olvido

Hugo Hiriart (Ciudad de México, 1941) autor de obras como Galaor (Premio Xavier Villaurrutia de 1972), Cuadernos de Gofa, La destrucción de todas las cosas, Vivir y beber y Disertaciones sobre las telarañas, declaró recientemente, durante el ciclo "Escribir, ¿el arte de oponerse al mundo?" que se lleva a cabo en Casa Refugio Citlatépetl, que "el infierno del escritor es el olvido total, la desaparición en el imaginario del lector", de acuerdo a lo reportado por Notimex. El también dramaturgo anunció que montará una obra de teatro, el año próximo, en Xalapa, Veracruz. Hiriart es el recipiente del Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes 2009 en la categoría de Lingüística y literatura, a lado de Carlos Montemayor y José Luis Rivas. Durante su presentación en el ciclo, también afirmó: "Yo vivo de escribir artículos en periódicos y revistas, dar clases y montar algunas obras de teatro que, a propósito, este género sí necesita ayuda porque continúa en una etapa difícil, aún cuando lo financia el Estado. Si usted quiere montar una obra de teatro en México y tiene obstinación, la monta, pero es una actividad primitiva y arqueológica que necesita poco dinero, produce poco dinero e interesa poco a la gente". Almadía lanza obra de Le Clézio

La editorial oaxaqueña Almadía lanzó una traducción de la obra de J.M.G. Le Clézio, El día en que Beaumont conoció su dolor. "Para Le Clézio la escritura es como un submarino en el cual va a poner al lector y lo va a sumergir, y lo va a llevar a terrenos inconcebibles", dijo Martín Solares, traductor de la obra y editor de Almadía. La trama narra el drama que vive Beaumont quien despierta a la mitad de la noche atacado por un terrible dolor de muelas que irá en ascenso conforme pase el tiempo. "A medida que avanza la noche y este personaje siente que el dolor se acrecienta tiene la sensación de que se está separando del mundo. Creo que este fue uno de los primeros textos escritos por Le Clézio, en 1964, y en él se señalan caminos que va a seguir este narrador en algunos de sus trabajos posteriores", dijo Solares. Alejandro Magallanes se encargó del diseño editorial de esta edición. "Lo que hizo Alejandro fue inventar además los objetos que acompañan a este personaje, más bien la percepción que este personaje tenía de los objetos que lo rodeaban. Y con el sentido del humor y el talento que le son característicos trató de representar las ideas fijas y los recuerdos que tenía este personaje a medida que la noche transcurría", concluyó Solares.

Ciudad Signo: 6to Foro de Arte Público

El Centro Cultural Tlatelolco presenta en su Sala de Arte Público Sequeiros hasta el próximo 6 de noviembre la segunda etapa de Ciudad Signo: 6to. Foro de Arte Público, en la cual participan artistas de la talla de Vito Acconci, Annette Messager y Christoph Keller. Este encuentro anual fue curado en esta edición por Javier Toscano y Ana Luisa Lacorte. Acconci, Messager y Kller ofrecerán conferencias magistrales en torno al tema de la ciudad "como un sitio que posibilita tránsitos estéticos, donde la dinámica se presenta como la locación adecuada para catalizar discusiones en torno a las prácticas y los impulsos de intervención e injerencia de los interlocutores citadinos", de acuerdo a lo reportado por Noticias 22. El foro también tendrá mesas de discusión en torno al arte público para las cuales se realizó una convocatoria abierta con el objeto de "congregar a personas interesadas en abordar la ciudad y los espacios urbanos como un medio para la práctica o la reflexión artísticas". La primera etapa del foro se llevó a cabo en julio y consistió en un programa con seminarios y talleres multidisciplinarios impartidos por historiadores de arte, psicólogos, filósofos y curadores. San Idelfonso: Noche de museos

Las exposiciones que actualmente se presentan en el museo San Idelfonso de la Ciudad de México, Antony Gormley y Betsabeé Romero: Lágrimas Negra, podrán ser visitadas por el público todos los miércoles de este mes en horario extendido como parte de la Noche de Museos, de acuerdo a lo reportado por Noticias 22 y Notimex. La Noche de Museos cuenta además con una guía para ambas exposiciones así como pases de dos por uno, además de la extensión de los horarios. El proyecto es parte de una cooperativa entre una veintena de instituciones del Centro Histórico de la Ciudad de México que consiste en abrir las puertas de las 19:00 a las 22:00 horas con el objetivo de acerca a un mayor número de personas a la cultura. En cuanto a las exposiciones que se encuentra en el museo de San Idelfonso, la primera, Antony Gormley, presenta trabajos del artista británico que abarcan desde 1981 hasta 2008; además de la esculturas e instalaciones, se presentan cerca de 129 dibujos y litografías. En cuando a la exposiciones de Betsabeé Romero, se revisa el trabajo que realizó en la última década, concentrada en "la migración y en el automóvil como símbolo de la movilidad urbana", de acuerdo a lo reportado por Notimex. Pedro Friedeberg en Bellas Artes

Con ocasión de la retrospectiva que actualmente se presenta en el Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes, Pedro Friedeberg: arquitecto de confusiones impecables, el artista y arquitecto afirmó para el diario capitalino La Jornada: "El arte es una válvula de escape, aunque existen artistas que reflejan el mundo con porquerías y las nuevas propuestas son muy aburridas". La exposición, que continuará presentándose hasta el 31 de enero del año entrante, consta de 185 obras en distintos medios: pintura, obra en papel, serigrafía y mobiliario. La exposición, que hace de las fronteras entre diseño, arquitectura y arte plástico algo cada vez más poroso, fue curada por James Oles, quien reconoce la relación entre el surrealismo y la historia del diseño en la obra de Frideberg. Oles afirmó para el mismo diario: "Hoy día lo que hizo Friedeberg no se ve como rebeldía, porque muchos hablan del posmodernismo en la arquitectura, algo que surgió en los años 70 y 80". Añadió, respecto de la obra realizada en la década de 1960: "Las personas que piensan que han visto una muestra de Friedeberg no han visto nada. En Bellas Artes, el público podrá apreciar todas las facetas creativas de Pedro, incluida su obra actual, que es un gran logro en la exhibición".

Querétaro y Colombia: FIC 2010

Recién concluido el Festival Internacional Cervantino, se anunció que Querétaro y Colombia serán los invitados para las festividades en Guanajuato del próximo año. De acuerdo a lo reportado por el diario El Universal, el embajador de Colombia en México, Luis Camilo Osorio Isaza, afirmó que para el 2010 se podría contar con la participación de Gabriel García Márquez, Álvaro Mutis, Fernando Vallejo o Fernando Botero. Por su parte, la directora del festival, Lidia Camacho, sólo afirmó que apenas se realizan algunos preparativos: "Apenas nos estamos reuniendo con el embajador para definir la agenda". Camacho añadió que se llegaron a convenios de colaboración con el Festival Internacional de Edimburgo y el Festival Internacional Mutek. El próximo año, afirmó, el tema en torno al cual girará el Cervantino será la Revolución y la Independencia: "Creo importante que nos acercamos a estas efemérides desde la mirada de las experiencias acaecidas en distintas naciones de nuestro continente", afirmó para el diario Milenio. Entre otros de los planes que tienen para el futuro, es la digitalización de los archivos del FIC, como afirmó Camacho:"En 2012 tendremos ya terminada la digitalización y catalogación de todos los archivos del Festival".

Matando Puercos de Lucero Trejo

Este viernes 6 de noviembre se estrena la obra Matando Puercos de la dramaturga, directora y reconocida actriz, Lucero Trejo. La puesta en escena se basa en fragmentos del libro El asesino del sueño. Paráfrasis de Macbeth de Shakespeare, de León Felipe. "Hamlet duda, Ricardo sueña, Otelo escucha, Macbeth busca. Tres brujas y el autor inglés llevarán al espectador a través de un juego de espejos; ellos le hablarán desde el lugar más profundo de su ser, desde dentro", escribe sobre el montaje la directora. Trejo, también escribió el guión teatral de esta obra. El reparto está compuesto por reconocidos actores de la escena del teatro mexicano como Juan Carlos Vives y Guadalupe Damián; actúan también Yolanda Navarrete, Antonio Rojas, Rodolfo Blanco, Gastón Yáñes, Erando González y Diana Leín. Matando puercos se presentará en el Teatro Orientación del Centro Cultural del Bosque, en el Campo Marte. La temporada será del 6 de noviembre al 6 de diciembre; la obra se presenta los jueves y viernes a las 20:00 horas; sábados a las 19:00 horas y domingos a las 18:00 horas. Los boletos cuestan 150 pesos y se compran en la taquilla del teatro; hay descuentos para estudiantes y maestros.

Estrenarán Fronteras

Este 6 de noviembre se estrena la obra de Edgar Chías, dirigida por David Psalmon, Fronteras. Inscrita en el teatro del absurdo, la obra que la compañía TeatroSinParedes presentó en el Festival Cervantino este año, exhibe y analiza las crisis que provoca el mestizaje, ese sentimiento de orfandad que ocasiona el no sentirse parte de algún lugar; los conflictos que surgen en torno al color de piel, cambios en los valores y costumbres, en torno a la posición económica y otros temas sobre la identidad. La pieza narra la historia de Manuel Nombrado y Cuauhtli Nombrado, dos hermanos separados por sus tan distintas manera de ver el mundo. El primero pasa su vida en el ámbito urbano y disfruta del éxito que le ha brindado su carrera de arquitecto, el segundo es un rebelde, decidido a combatir lo que le parece injusto. La videograbación de un programa clandestino dirigido a las minorías reprimidas da inicio al montaje ideado por el dramaturgo Edgar Chías, quien modificó Saganash, historia original de Jean-François Caron, y situó la acción en México. Con:  Gerardo Taracena, Aída López, Sergio Ramos Ruiz, María Goycochea, Alejandro Morales y Hernán Mendoza. Fronteras se presenta en el Teatro Julio Castillo, hasta el 6 de diciembre.

Three Kings' Day (Dia de los Santos Reyes)--Nationwide.

The Feast of the Epiphany recalls the arrival in Bethlehem of the three wise men (reyes magos) bearing gifts for baby Jesus. This is the day of traditional gift-giving for children in the central and southern regions of Mexico. Rosca de Reyes, a crown-sha

ped sweet bread decorated with candied fruits with a small doll baked inside, is served on this day. Whoever is lucky enough to find the figure in his slice of bread must host a party on February 2, Candlemas Day, offering tamales (stuffed cornflour cakes wrapped in corn husks or banana leaves) and atole (a hot, sweet drink thickened with corn flour) to the guests.

St. Sebastian Fiesta (Fiesta de San Sebastian el Martir)--Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas.

This fiesta is famous for its "parachicos" tour, which features a dancing procession from the Santo Domingo church to the San Antonio Hermit and ends in a delectable food festival featuring traditional dishes such as "pepita con tasajo" made of beef in a creamy pumpkin seed sauce. On the night of the 21st, a traditional nautical battle takes place on the Grijalva River which concludes in a spectacle of fireworks.

 Ceremony of the Pocho Dance--Tenosique, Tabasco.

Dating back to prehispanic times, the traditional "Pocho" dance means it's almost Carnaval time in Tabasco. The Pochü consists of a series of dances and other ancient ceremonies performed by masked dancers, many dressed as jaguars and tigers. The dance symbolizes the purification of man through the battle between good and evil. The Pocho performances begin on January 20 at the main park in Tenosique and on all subsequent Sundays prior to the commencement of Carnival. On the last day, the dancers dance backwards from the main square to the church where the dance began.

This annual festival features prehispanic ceremonies said to promote fertility and communicate with the heavens. Four voladores, or flyers, perform spectacular feats, launching themselves from the top of a pole (often reaching as high as 100 feet) and slowly descending as the ropes around the pole unwind. During this ancient Nahuatl and Totonac Indian ritual, each volador circles the pole 13 times before reaching the ground, for a total of 52 turns.

30th National Mole Fair (30° Feria Nacional del Mole)--San Pedro Actopan, Estado de Mexico.

Just south of Mexico City, thousands of varieties of mole will be prepared for sampling and competition. This spicy sauce is a Mexican staple and made of unsweetened chocolate, peppers and spices, often served with meat or poultry. Festival of San Cristobal de las Casas--San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas.

This two-week festival in Chiapas includes a procession by the Tzotzil and Tzetzal Indians, marimba music and a parade of horses.

Posadas--Nationwide.

 Processions recreating Joseph and Mary's journey to Bethlehem, in which people holding candles go door to door to seek shelter. Festivities include piñatas, Christmas caroling and special foods and sweets.

Posada and Piñata Fair (Feria de la Posada y Piñata)--Alcoman, Estado de Mexico.

 An annual celebration near Mexico City of the Posadas procession and this children?s party staple. Among the piñatas on display are those made from clay, traditional models with seven points that symbolize the seven deadly sins, and those made from cardboard with popular children's designs. Workshops in piñata-making are also offered.

Festival of the Radishes (Festival de los Rabanos)--Oaxaca, Oaxaca State.

Local artisans and sculptors set up stalls around the main square to display their elaborate pieces of art--made entirely from radishes! The local crop is used for creating nativity scenes and famous Mexican figures. Balloons and birds crafted from local flowers add even more color.

DEC 24:

Las Calendas--Oaxaca, Oaxaca State.

 The districts of Oaxaca City prepare floats and costumes for processions held throughout the city. The parades feature marmotas (translucent paper spheres lit from within and carried aloft on poles) and giant paper mache people whose arms flop around as the person hidden inside dances.

DEC 31:

Liberation of the Turtles?Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Guerrero. Most hotels in the region participate in a special marine animal protection program which includes collecting and protecting turtle eggs until they hatch and are ready for release. The releasing event symbolizes the beginning of a new year full of hope for these marvelous animals.
