Press Release/Communiqué de presse:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
ENTRY OF AIR LINES TO THE COUNTRY INCREASES 9.2%
According to the Integral System of Operation
Migratory (SIOM), Mexico has registered an important increase of flight arrivals
from international airlines in the months of January and February of 2008, in comparison
to January and February of 2007.
From the above, some countries that stand out are Canada, USA, France, United Kingdom, and Spain.
Comparing January and February of 2007 with 2008,
there has been an overall growth of 9.2% in flight arrivals in Mexico, 16.8% from Canada, which translates into 52,254 more entries than in
2007.
Canadian tourists are of great importance to Mexico. Last year, Mexico received 952,000 Canadian tourists, in comparison
with 247,000 Mexican tourists that visited Canada.
United States had an increase of 5.9% and France 6.5%, among
other 20 countries that the SIOM included in his study. It has been noticeable
that the main increase in flight arrivals in Mexico has been from Canada.
According to the announcement made last year by the
Secretary of Tourism, Mr. Elizondo Torres, the increase in Canadian visitors has
been very positive, considering that the average stay of the Canadians in Mexico is between 15 to 30 days, 4 times the average stay
from the Americans, who stay between 4 to 7 nights per visit.
