7th, 2008. –Fall once again brings an
impressive list of artists to the historic city of Guanajuato, Mexico, to perform in
the 36th edition of the International Cervantino
Festival, the most important event of its kind in Mexico and Latin America.
This edition will have some 1,672 Mexican
artists and 705 acts from the whole world perform a commanding list of 400
events, the great majority of which will take place in the historic center of
the city, classified a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
This year, the artistic and cultural
performances and exhibitions are as varied and innovating as ever, and
encompass almost every artistic expression from theatre to classical music
and from folkloric dance to a wandering museum.
One of the four most important events of
its kind in the world, the International Cervantino
Festival has earned a well-deserved reputation for its wide horizons and bold
programming.
The guests of honour for this 36th
edition will be Catalonia and the Mexican
state of Campeche. Director of the
Festival Gerardo Kleinburg declared that Catalonia is at the
forefront of international art, and will bring to the Cervantino
Festival its high-level culture.
A notable performance from Catalonia will be the Dança de la Mort de Verges, the first ever performance of a medieval
dance macabre outside Europe.
The opening concert on October 8th
will be given by the world-famous Catalan signer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat.

–L’automne amènera cette année encore une liste impressionnante
d’artistes à Guanajuato (au Mexique) dans le cadre du 36e Festival
international Cervantino, la plus importante
manifestation de son genre au Mexique et en Amérique Latine.
Cette édition verra
quelque 1 672 artistes mexicains et 705 artistes internationaux se produire au
cours de 400 événements. La majorité de ceux-ci auront lieu dans le centre
historique de Guanajuato, classé site du patrimoine mondial par
l’UNESCO.
Cette année encore, les
performances culturelles et artistiques et les expositions seront des plus variées,
et toucheront presque tous les domaines de l’expression artistique. On
y trouvera de tout, du théâtre à la musique classique, et de la danse
folklorique au musée itinérant.
Le Festival international
Cervantino est l’un des quatre événements les
plus importants en son genre dans le monde. Sa programmation audacieuse et sa
vision d’ouverture lui ont acquis au fil des ans une réputation
enviable.
Les invités
d’honneur de cette 36e édition sont la Catalogne et
l’état mexicain de Campeche. Selon le directeur du Festival GerardoKleinburg, la Catalogne
est à l’avant-garde de l’art international, et elle apportera au
Festival Cervantino sa culture de haut niveau.
Un des spectacles
catalans qui promet d’être mémorable est la Dança de la Mort de Verges. Ce sera la toute première
présentation d’une danse macabre médiévale hors de l’Europe.
Le concert d’ouverture
du 8 octobre mettra en vedette l’auteur-compositeur-interprète
catalan Joan
Manuel Serrat.
