The Los
Cabos Convention & Visitors Bureau announced today that the destination
is closely monitoring and preparing for the approach of Hurricane Jimena,
which is traveling northwest in the direction of Baja California Sur. The San
Jose del Cabo International Airport will remain open today and tomorrow. The
Los Cabos CVB recommends that all travelers check with their respective airline
carriers for any service or schedule updates. Additionally, The Port of Los
Cabos has been closed as of 12pm MST today as a precautionary measure.
It is important to note that over 20 hotels
and resorts throughout Los Cabos are certified as temporary shelters for
emergency situations. This process is renewed annually in order to ensure
structural integrity and quality services. Additionally, Baja California Sur
has over 40 municipal shelters throughout the state available for tourists
and residents.
The months of August and September are
typically considered to be the low season in terms of tourism for Los Cabos.
Storm preparations have been managed smoothly at this juncture, with a large
amount of advance planning and necessary supplies already in place.
Known for it's world-class fishing,
championship golf courses, luxurious spas, exciting eco-adventure, endless
array of water sports and much more, Los Cabos has been experiencing a rise
in demand in recent weeks as the economy begins to show signs of recovery and
is expecting to be the destination of choice for the upcoming fall and winter
travel season.
