TRAVELER HOST “MEXICO
UNEXPECTED” IN LOS ANGELES
Los Angeles, CA(August 27, 2008)—The Mexico Tourism
Board and National Geographic Traveler Magazine have
partnered to bring the modern culture of Mexico to life in six spectacular
events. Experience the sounds, tastes and visual arts of a country from the
inside out. Beginning with live musical performances from some of Mexico's newest artists, travel and craft
villages, and some of the region’s most exquisite cuisine, “Mexico
Unexpected” will introduce you to a Mexico you never knew before.
The event series kicked off August 9th
in New York City’s Central Park Summer Stage, continuing on to various
cities throughout the country and ultimately reaching the famous Hollywood Bowl
on September 21st, where guests will enjoy live musical performances
by Mexican-American singer, Lila Downs,
Latin-hip-hop and rock sensation, Ozomatli,
hip-hop and funk band, Spearhead,as well the eclectic sounds of Nortec Collective with Mariachi, performing
a collaboration of traditional Mexican sound and rock-style music. Attendees
will also be able to watch live artisan wood-working and weaving demonstrations
by Friends of Oaxacan Folk Art
(FOFA) in the CraftsVillage. Master
Woodcarver Jacobo Angeles and Master Weaver Jose Buenaventura will be flown in
for the demonstrations and guests can purchase authentic pieces of art from the
CraftsVillage.
Delicious cuisine from the region will be made
available with special menus featuring the latest Mexican cuisine created for
all restaurants and venues on location. If the day’s activities have left
you yearning for more Mexican culture, you’re in luck. Swing by the
Travel Village and pick up some information on the many Mexican tour packages
available, or, if you’re ready to take it a step further, you can
actually book your Mexican getaway on the spot in the Travel Village.
