THE MEXICO TOURISM BOARD AND NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELER HOST “MEXICO UNEXPECTED” IN LOS ANGELES

Los Angeles, CA (August 27, 2008)—The Mexico Tourism Board and National Geographic Traveler Magazine have partnered to bring the modern culture of Mexico to life in six spectacular events. Experience the sounds, tastes and visual arts of a country from the inside out. Beginning with live musical performances from some of Mexico's newest artists, travel and craft villages, and some of the region’s most exquisite cuisine, “Mexico Unexpected” will introduce you to a Mexico you never knew before.

The event series kicked off August 9th in New York City’s Central Park Summer Stage, continuing on to various cities throughout the country and ultimately reaching the famous Hollywood Bowl on September 21st, where guests will enjoy live musical performances by Mexican-American singer, Lila Downs, Latin-hip-hop and rock sensation, Ozomatli, hip-hop and funk band, Spearhead, as well the eclectic sounds of Nortec Collective with Mariachi, performing a collaboration of traditional Mexican sound and rock-style music. Attendees will also be able to watch live artisan wood-working and weaving demonstrations by Friends of Oaxacan Folk Art (FOFA) in the Crafts Village. Master Woodcarver Jacobo Angeles and Master Weaver Jose Buenaventura will be flown in for the demonstrations and guests can purchase authentic pieces of art from the Crafts Village.

Delicious cuisine from the region will be made available with special menus featuring the latest Mexican cuisine created for all restaurants and venues on location. If the day’s activities have left you yearning for more Mexican culture, you’re in luck. Swing by the Travel Village and pick up some information on the many Mexican tour packages available, or, if you’re ready to take it a step further, you can actually book your Mexican getaway on the spot in the Travel Village.

Similar events will be taking place across the country including:
