MEXICO’S UNDERWATER WORLD
EMERGES AT THE DIVING EQUIPMENT & MARKETING ASSOCIATION (DEMA) SHOW IN ORLANDO
Top Mexican Caribbean
Destinations Showcase its Diving Offer
Orlando, Fl., November 2nd,
2009 –
Mexico’s amazing underwater
world will come to life at this year’s 2009 Diving Equipment &
Marketing Association (DEMA) show on November 4th through the 7th
in Orlando, Florida. The Mexico Tourism Board (MTB) will
showcase some of the country’s top diving Mexican destinations, among
them: Cancun,Cozumel,
Isla Mujeres and Playa del Carmen.
The DEMA Show is considered one of the most important international
trade-only events for the diving, action water sports and travel industries;
and will attract some 5,000, professionals and amateur divers to the OrangeCountyConvention Center in Orlando to learn about the best diving
destinations, water activities, packages and best deals.
“Mexico’s
Caribbean underwater beauty, live reefs with colorful flora and fauna, offer
some of the best diving in the world”, said Teresa Villarreal, Director
of the MTB office in Miami.
“We are extremely proud that Mexico is home to the second
largest coral reef in the world: the Great Mesoamerican Reef” she added
The 450 mile stretch of the great Mesoamerican Reef covers Punta Nizuc
in Cancun through Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, and
the Riviera Maya, providing these destinations with rare and unique dive spots
including caves, reefs, sea creatures and vibrant multicolored species and
flora.
Cancun
Cancun’s coastline is home to nearly 100 coral
species, 350 mollusks and 164 different species of reef dwelling fish. Cancun is also the home to the hawksbill sea turtle,
crocodiles, lemon sharks and manatees. There are many fascinating scuba diving
venues in Cancun for both the novice as well
as the more experienced diver. You have a choice of open water diving along the
reef as well as several sunken boats to add to the adventure. If you go inland
along the Cancun – Tulum corridor
you’ll find many caves and cenotes, also known as “sink
holes”. Cenote diving allows you to choose from cave diving, allowing for
divers to swim beyond the reach of natural sunlight or cave diving where divers
stay within sight of natural light.
Cozumel
Cozumel has over 40 dive sites, offering astounding views of bright,
beautifully colored, tropical fish, a kaleidoscope of multi-colored coral reefs
and the perfect setting for great fall diving and adventure packages,
offering added value such as discounted hotel rates, complimentary breakfast,
evening dives, spa treatments and much more!
Cozumel’s exceptionally clear aquamarine waters are virtually
transparent, providing divers with up to 200 feet of visibility among coral
reefs sprinkled with limestone caves, tunnels, and rare trees of black
coral. With more than 30 reefs, ranging in depth from 15 to 90 feet,
divers will witness marine flora and fauna – moray eels, sea turtles,
nurse sharks, giant anemones, large groupers, queen angel fish, hermit crabs,
parrotfish, giant sponges, cactus coral, gorgonian fans, multicolored globes of
brain coral and the “Splendid Toad Fish,” endemic to Cozumel.
Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres,
home of the "sleeping shark caves," is an island located
approximately four miles from Cancun’s
shoreline, and also home to the Garrafon Natural Park, an eco-park with
breathtaking landscapes, art and tradition. The endless NorthBeach
has extraordinary reefs for snorkeling, while the Chairel and the Ultrafreeze
wrecks are amazing diving spots that offer a full range of scuba services,
including day/night dives in the marine park, and of course, the shark caves. Isla
Mujeres is also known for its blue water encounters with large pelagic
fish, primarily Atlantic sailfish, white marlin, dorado
and whale sharks.
Far beyond the fascinating marine world of these Mexican Caribbean
destinations, visitors may enjoy the magnificent archeological Mayan sites, the
culture and gastronomy of the region, eco-parks and deluxe resorts, with top
notch facilities and warm, welcoming hospitality that Mexicans are known for.
