buy to host “mexico-minnesota day: building Successful
relationships” forum on october 29th
Chicago, IL (October 26th, 2009) – The Consulate of Mexico
in St. Paul and the Mexico Tourism Board will
host “México-Minnesota
Day: Building Successful Relationships” on October 29th.
This day-long informative seminar will discuss business opportunities between Mexico and Minnesota
and will take place on the Best Buy
Corporate Campus in the city of Richfield.
The event will highlight the economic potential, cultural wealth and
tourist attractions of Mexico
through a seminar which focuses on the bilateral trade and investment
opportunities between Mexico
and Minnesota
and will also include a cultural and culinary showcase.
The “Mexico-Minnesota Day” will open with Brian Dunn, CEO of Best Buy and will
feature keynote presentations by leading authorities such as the Governor of
Minnesota, Tim Pawlenty, alongside Robert Willet, President of Best Buy
International.Secretary of Foreign
Relations for Mexico,
Ambassador Patricia Espinosa, will
also address attendees through a previously recorded message.
One of the keynote speakers will be Ken
Pomerantz, President and CMO at MLT Vacations, one of the largest providers
of vacation packages in the United
States, managing multiple package vacation
brands, including Delta Vacations® and Continental Airlines Vacations® among
others. Mr. Pomerantz’s presentation will be key
to understanding why Mexico
is one of the most important leisure travel destinations, as well as its
potential in the tourism industry by featuring the organization’s success
story. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to highlight the unique relationships
we have built over the years with our valued hotel and destination partners in Mexico.These strong ties have given us the ability
to grow our business and have been critical to our mutual success in Mexico,”
said Pomerantz. “Mexico
is a beautiful destination with diverse offerings that appeal to virtually
everyone, giving us the ability to offer travelers many
wonderful vacation options, and allowing them to build a memorable
trip.”
The event will also include participation by the distinguished Ana Luisa
Fajer, General Consul of Mexico
in Minnesota, who will be speaking on the
current state of the Mexican economy and the bilateral relationship between Mexico and the
United Status at large. “Mexicans and Minnesotans are striving to build a
strong and mutually beneficial partnership, and to further explore and expand
our opportunities. I strongly believe we can do it, and even excel at it. We
can all contribute to a brighter future for our economies and
communities” said Fajer.
Rodrigo Esponda, Director of the Mexico Tourism Board’s Chicago
Office will present on business travel and the advantages of hosting
conventions in Mexico.
Tony Lorusso, Executive Director of the Minnesota Trade Office, Miguel Leaman,
Director of the Office of ProMéxico in Chicago, and Pat Kelly, Partner and
Officer of Fredrikson & Byron, will also lead a panel discussion on
practical advice and resources for doing business in Mexico.
Jorge López, Head Officer for
International Trade and Investment for ProMéxico, an entity of the Mexican
Federal Government will strengthen the participation of Mexico as an
important partner in the international economic spectrum. Mr. López will be
speaking on Mexico’s
economic recovery plan, as well as the implications for growth and commercial
exchange in a climate with potential for increasing investment opportunities,
among other topics.
Mexico is currently the third
largest economic partner of the United States
and the fifth largest of Minnesota,
notably being the second most important trade partner in the food sector for
the state.The Mexican community in Minnesota is also of
ever increasing importance in the labor, economic, social as well as cultural
areas.
To mark the end of the event, a special networking lunch “Taste of Mexico”, will take place
featuring cultural attractions and a variety of Mexican dishes, courtesy of
restaurant owners including Manny’s Tortas, Tamales la Loma, Taquería la
Hacienda and Salsa a la Salsa. Attendees will also have the opportunity to
enter a raffle for a trip to Mexico,
sponsored by MLT Vacations.
The seminar “Mexico-
Minnesota Day: Building Successful Relationships” is brought together
due to the continued collaboration between the Mexico Tourism Board, Minnesota
Trade Office, PROMEXICO,Best Buy, and
the Consulate of Mexico in St Paul, MN.
