Chicago, IL (October 26th, 2009) – The Consulate of Mexico in St. Paul and the Mexico Tourism Board will host “México- Minnesota Day: Building Successful Relationships” on October 29th. This day-long informative seminar will discuss business opportunities between Mexico and Minnesota and will take place on the Best Buy Corporate Campus in the city of Richfield.

The event will highlight the economic potential, cultural wealth and tourist attractions of Mexico through a seminar which focuses on the bilateral trade and investment opportunities between Mexico and Minnesota and will also include a cultural and culinary showcase.

The “Mexico-Minnesota Day” will open with Brian Dunn, CEO of Best Buy and will feature keynote presentations by leading authorities such as the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Pawlenty, alongside Robert Willet, President of Best Buy International.  Secretary of Foreign Relations for Mexico, Ambassador Patricia Espinosa, will also address attendees through a previously recorded message.

One of the keynote speakers will be Ken Pomerantz, President and CMO at MLT Vacations, one of the largest providers of vacation packages in the United States, managing multiple package vacation brands, including Delta Vacations® and Continental Airlines Vacations® among others. Mr. Pomerantz’s presentation will be key to understanding why Mexico is one of the most important leisure travel destinations, as well as its potential in the tourism industry by featuring the organization’s success story. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to highlight the unique relationships we have built over the years with our valued hotel and destination partners in Mexico.  These strong ties have given us the ability to grow our business and have been critical to our mutual success in Mexico,” said Pomerantz. “Mexico is a beautiful destination with diverse offerings that appeal to virtually everyone, giving us the ability to offer travelers many wonderful vacation options, and allowing them to build a memorable trip.”

The event will also include participation by the distinguished Ana Luisa Fajer, General Consul of Mexico in Minnesota, who will be speaking on the current state of the Mexican economy and the bilateral relationship between Mexico and the United Status at large. “Mexicans and Minnesotans are striving to build a strong and mutually beneficial partnership, and to further explore and expand our opportunities. I strongly believe we can do it, and even excel at it. We can all contribute to a brighter future for our economies and communities” said Fajer.

Rodrigo Esponda, Director of the Mexico Tourism Board’s Chicago Office will present on business travel and the advantages of hosting conventions in Mexico. Tony Lorusso, Executive Director of the Minnesota Trade Office, Miguel Leaman, Director of the Office of ProMéxico in Chicago, and Pat Kelly, Partner and Officer of Fredrikson & Byron, will also lead a panel discussion on practical advice and resources for doing business in Mexico.

Jorge López, Head Officer for International Trade and Investment for ProMéxico, an entity of the Mexican Federal Government will strengthen the participation of Mexico as an important partner in the international economic spectrum. Mr. López will be speaking on Mexico’s economic recovery plan, as well as the implications for growth and commercial exchange in a climate with potential for increasing investment opportunities, among other topics.

Mexico is currently the third largest economic partner of the United States and the fifth largest of Minnesota, notably being the second most important trade partner in the food sector for the state.  The Mexican community in Minnesota is also of ever increasing importance in the labor, economic, social as well as cultural areas.

To mark the end of the event, a special networking lunch “Taste of Mexico”, will take place featuring cultural attractions and a variety of Mexican dishes, courtesy of restaurant owners including Manny’s Tortas, Tamales la Loma, Taquería la Hacienda and Salsa a la Salsa. Attendees will also have the opportunity to enter a raffle for a trip to Mexico, sponsored by MLT Vacations.

The seminar “Mexico- Minnesota Day: Building Successful Relationships” is brought together due to the continued collaboration between the Mexico Tourism Board, Minnesota Trade Office, PROMEXICO,  Best Buy, and the Consulate of Mexico in St Paul, MN.
