THE MEXICO TOURISM BOARD BRINGS ACCLAIMED MARIACHI
NUEVO TECALITLAN TO CHICAGO’S
2009 GRANT PARK AND WORLD MUSIC FESTIVALS
CHICAGO, IL (June 02, 2009) – The Mexico Tourism
Board and the State of Jalisco bring Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan to
Chicago’s Millenium Park for the 2009 Grant Park and World Music
Festivals. On June 24th, the Mariachi ensemble will, for the first
time, join the Grant Park Orchestra for an unforgettable performance; and on
June 25th, the group will serenade thousands of Chicagoans through
the evening at Chicago’s
World Music Festival. Mexico
takes the center stage at MillenniumPark as the mix of mariachi music with classical
instruments brings to Chicago the spirit of Mexico for two
consecutive evenings.
The Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan is no stranger to
American audiences. In 2002, this ensemble performed in New
York, Los Angeles and Chicago promoting the
unique traditions of Jalisco. On that same year, the group performed for former
Florida Governor John Ellis “Jeb” Bush and showed him through
musical notes, the culture of one of Mexico’ most representative states:
Jalisco. The Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan has also performed in South America and Europe.
“There is no better way for Chicago to
experience the vibrant state of Jalisco than by listening to mariachi
music,” says Rodrigo Esponda, Director of the Mexico Tourism Board in
Chicago, “we are honored that for the first time one of Mexico’s
most acclaimed mariachi ensembles will perform at two of Chicago’s best
summer music festivals.”
Guadalajara – birthplace of
Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan – is the capital of the state of Jalisco and
the Mariachi capital of the world. Every fall at the International
Meeting of Mariachi Festival (www.mariachi-jalisco.com.mx), Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan joins dozens of
ensembles from Mexico and the world over who that in Guadalajara to learn from
each other and perform their best pieces. Guadalajara
is considered one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites because of its music and
mesmerizing architecture.
Through their songs, the Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan
gives tribute to Jalisco’s essence which accounts for two of Mexico’s most representative icons:
Mariachi and Tequila; and thus it is well said
“Jalisco is Mexico”.
