State Governments Present Infrastructure
Programs to Reactivate Tourism
Ivonne
Ortega, Governor of the State of Yucatan,
announced a plan to reactivate operations at the Chichen ItzaAirport,
which is located near the new Wonder of the World: Chichen Itza.
“We
want to reshape the function of this terminal so that the main beneficiary is
the tourism sector, both domestic and international,” said Governor
Ortega at Mexico’s
7th National Convention of the American Chamber of Commerce.
Since
its opening in 2001, the Chichen ItzaAirport
has been working far below capacity with idled international facilities.
Ortega
added that her government is also investing in a bullet train project that will
run from the city of Progreso
to Valladolid
and the Riviera Maya.
Similarly,
Juan Sabines, Governor of the State of Chiapas, stated that to improve the competitiveness of the
State, his government plans to develop a regional hub at Tuxtla
GutierrezAirport to
link economic activity between Central America and Mexico.
Governor
Sabines also added that he supports the development
of new tourist corridors such as Palenque-San Cristobal, which will also
encourage growth for the hospitality and transportation sectors.
