China to be honored guest at 35th Festival Cervantino in Guanajuato

St. Mark’s Fair in Aguascalientes will Commemorate 180th Anniversary in April

La Feria de San Marcos in the state of Aguascalientes, is one of Mexico’s most important fairs, attracting millions of local and international tourists,. It has featured Mexican and international traditions for 180 years.

This year, it will take place from April 19th to May 18th. Special guests will be Spain and the Mexican state of Oaxaca, which will be represented in the fair’s cultural events including art, theatre and dance. Tourists also visit the fair for its commercial and industrial exhibitions, concerts, rodeos, and temporary casino. A carnival with mechanical rides, traditional food, drinks and parties are also popular throughout the festival.

Originally, the fair was celebrated in anticipation of la vendimia, or the start of the wine harvest season, as wine production is an important activity in the state. Now it serves as a celebration of the city’s patron, San Marcos (St. Mark), and as a stage for international visitors to experience Mexican folkloric and contemporary traditions.

Festival coordinators are currently working on this year’s calendar. For confirmed events, please visit: www.feriadesanmarcos.com
