China to be honored guest at 35th Festival Cervantino in Guanajuato

Encounter Chiapas through the Mellow Sounds of the Marimba

Nurture your soul through the sound of a legendary and traditional instrument called the marimba during the 9th International Marimba Festival, taking place in Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital of the state of Chiapas, from the 18th to the 21st of June.

Chiapas is considered the crib of the most skillful marimba players because they create notes in a smooth and expressive manner. Gathered in the festival will be some of the best performers from Mexico and Central America. The event includes popular appearances at the parks and concerts at the theatres of the capital, with some extended presentations in the cities of Comitan and San Cristobal de las Casas.

Once in Tuxtla Gutierrez, you can visit the Reserva El Ecote (The Ecote Reserve) and the town of Chiapa de Corzo, where an ancient Mayan ceremonial center remains. Not to be missed is an exploration of the impressive Caņon del Sumidero (Sumidero Canyon), one of the nation's most important natural attractions. Also, you can do some cave diving, climbing and rappelling at El Chorreadero waterfall with its gorgeous calcareous caverns and underground rivers.
