Villahermosa?s nearby towns offer various
places where you can have great experiences in natural settings as you enjoy
diverse outdoor recreational activities.
Centro Ecoturistico Yu-Balcah
? Located 60 km (37 mi) south of Villahermosa,
in the town of Tacotalpa.
Decreed a protected area, this 260-hectare (642-acre) jungle zone is inhabited
by animal species like the howler monkey. The ecotourism center has excellent
facilities for rappelling, mountain biking and horseback riding. Open Tuesday
through Sunday from 8:00
to 5:00.
Kolem-Jaa ? Lies 95 km
(59 mi) south of Villahermosa.
This 27-hectare (67-acre) ecotourism center has a wide variety of endemic
flora. Here you can discover majestic waterfalls in an area where you also can
go rappelling. In addition, you can visit the so-called Cueva
de la Luz (Cave
of Light),
which is a good spot for cave diving. Other activities you can do here include
mountain biking, horseback riding and canopy tours, which involves harnessing
yourself to a pulley and gliding down a cable suspended high above the jungle
trails.
Grutas de Cocona
? Located 55 km (34 mi) south of Villahermosa,
near the town of Teapa.
These caverns have a 30-meter (99-foot) passageway with lighting. Here you?ll
discover various rock formations. Open daily from 9:00 to 5:00.
Grutas de Agua Blanca
? Located 70 km (43 mi) east of Villahermosa. These
caves are part of a larger cavern system. Some have artificial lighting so that
visitors can get a better look at the stalactite and stalagmite formations. Open daily from 8:00 to 6:00.
