ENTERTAINMENT AND SPORTS EVENTS
Throughout
the year Veracruz
hosts important cultural and sporting events. Among those are:
Festival del Caribe.
This festival takes place in Boca del Rio. At this event, which draws guests
from various Caribbean nations, visitors attend academic forums, conferences
and business conventions. It also has a strong cultural offering of music,
dance, art exhibits and Afro-Caribbean film.
Torneo Sabalo de
Plata. This important fishing tournament takes place in
May. Among the most common species caught are bonefish, tuna, yellowtail,
snapper, corbina, barracuda, dogfish, bass, wahoo and shark.
World Trade Center Veracruz.
Located in Boca del Rio at 3497 Blvd. Adolfo Ruiz Cortines. This modern world-class building, which is more
than 9,000 sq. meters, hosts various events, particularly business conventions.
Francisco Xavier Clavijero
Theater. Located in downtown Veracruz, on
the corners of Av. Independencia and Benito Juarez.
The interior of this 19th-century neoclassic building has marble
ornaments and mirrors. It is an important venue for cultural events and live
performances.
Instituto Veracruzano
de Cultura. Located on
Ignacio Zaragoza Street, at F Street. This cultural
institute was once a convent and a hospital. Since 1987, when it was restored,
it has hosted various cultural and artistic events.
