Cañon Rio La Venta. Located in El Ocote Special Biosphere Reserve, more than 60 km (37 mi) west of Tuxtla Gutierrez, off Highway 190. Also known as Cañon Sagrado (Holy Canyon), this place offers one of the state?s best rivers for whitewater rafting. The river stretches 80 km (50 mi) and it varies in width from 10 to 90 meters (33 to 297 feet), depending on how narrow the canyon area is and how high the river rises during the rainy season. The best time of year to go rafting is between January and May.
