SURROUNDING AREAS, TOURING AND NOTABLE PLACES

Route from the Eden Mine to Cerro de la Bufa ? One of the most interesting tours in Zacatecas begins in the Esperanza tunnel at tourist attraction Eden mine. There you can take a train that goes through a 600-meter (1,980-foot) tunnel on a guided tour. The tunnels have special lighting that allows you to see the rock formations. Among the sights you?ll find is an altar honoring the Santo Niño de Atocha. During the tour, you?ll cross suspended bridges and see a manmade waterfall and a unique disco called El Malacate. The guide also will tell you about the legend of a miner who became petrified due to a curse. The tour of the mine ends at an elevator that ascends 36 meters  (118 feet) to the surface. The elevator leads to El Grillo tunnel, where you?ll find the cable car station. From there you can take the cable car on a 650-meter (2,145-foot) run to el Cerro de la Bufa. From 85 meters (280 feet) above you?ll get an amazing view of the city. At the Cerro de la Bufa you?ll find the following attractions: the Plaza de la Revolucion Mexicana (The Plaza of the Mexican Revolution), the Capilla de la Virgen del Patrocinio (The Chapel of the Patron Virgin), the Museo Toma de Zacatecas (The Toma Museum of Zacatecas), the Observatorio Metereologico (The Meteorological Observatory) and the Mausoleo de los Hombres Ilustres (Mausoleum of Illustrious Men).
