SURROUNDING AREAS, TOURING AND NOTABLE PLACES

Touring Taxco?s Surrounding Areas - Departing from the magical town of Taxco, take Highway 95 south for 33 km (20 mi) until you reach the city of Iguala, which is where generals Vicente Guerrero and Agustin de Iturbide signed the famous Plan de Iguala (Iguala Plan) in the final stage of the War of Independence, which proclaimed guarantees of independence, religion and unity. The city is also the birthplace of the Mexican flag. Follow the same highway 138 km (85 mi) south until you arrive at state capital Chilpancingo, where you can visit the Templo de la Asuncion. There insurgent General Jose Maria Morelos read a famous document known as Sentimientos de la Nacion (Sentiments of the Nation). During your stay, you also can visit the Chilpancingo Regional Museum, which offers a broad overview of the city?s history, from the pre-Hispanic era to the 20th century. The last stop on the route is Acapulco, one of Mexico?s most important beach destinations. In Acapulco, which draws thousands of national and foreign tourists, you can enjoy the sunny weather and a magnificent view of the bay.
