SURROUNDING AREAS, TOURING AND NOTABLE PLACES

The trolleys of Aguascalientes, which preceded the train, were used in the late 19th century. Today, they offer a useful and attractive way to tour the city.

Trolley Tour of Aguascalientes - This tour is ideal for those who want to see the city?s historic, architectural and religious attractions. Departing from the Historic Center, you?ll see the city?s first block, which was founded by royal decree in 1575 and dubbed Villa of Our Lady of the Assumption of Aguas Calientes. The city was founded to provide shelter and refuge for silver prospectors.

As you continue the tour, you?ll see that the stone and red basalt constructions have been well preserved over the years. In front of the Plaza de la Patria, you can admire the important and splendid historic buildings, such as the Palacio de Gobierno, the Palacio Municipal and the Basilica-Cathedral. You can also appreciate such architectural gems as the state?s Archivo Historico, the Templo de San Antonio and the Museo de la Ciudad, which houses works of local artists. The trolleys run from Tuesday through Sunday with departures at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The tour takes about 50 minutes.

Trolley Tour of Two City Neighborhoods ? This tour takes visitors through two of Aguascalientes? traditional and mystical neighborhoods. The San Marcos neighborhood, with its signature garden and balustrade, has two important bullfight arenas: the Plaza de Toros de San Marcos and the Plaza de Toros Monumental. On the outskirts, you?ll also pass by Lienzo Charro, which has a strong cowboy tradition. Finally, you?ll visit the Triana neighborhood, which has produced many important bullfighters. The trolley departs Tuesday through Sunday at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The tour lasts about 50 minutes.
