The trolleys of Aguascalientes, which preceded
the train, were used in the
late 19th century. Today,
they offer a useful and attractive
way to tour the city.
Trolley Tour of
Aguascalientes - This tour is ideal for those who
want to see
the city?s historic, architectural and religious attractions.
Departing from the Historic Center,
you?ll see the city?s first
block, which was founded by royal decree in 1575 and dubbed Villa of Our Lady of the
Assumption of Aguas
Calientes. The city was founded to
provide shelter and refuge for
silver prospectors.
As you continue
the tour, you?ll see that the
stone and red basalt constructions have been well
preserved over the years. In front
of the Plaza de la Patria, you can admire the important and splendid
historic buildings, such as the Palacio de Gobierno, the Palacio Municipal and the Basilica-Cathedral.
You can also appreciate such architectural gems as the state?s Archivo Historico, the Templo de San
Antonio and the Museo de la
Ciudad, which houses works of local artists. The trolleys
run from Tuesday through Sunday with departures
at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and
6:00 p.m. The tour takes about 50 minutes.
Trolley Tour of Two City Neighborhoods ? This
tour takes visitors through two of
Aguascalientes? traditional and
mystical neighborhoods. The San Marcos neighborhood, with its signature
garden and balustrade, has two important bullfight arenas: the Plaza de Toros de San Marcos and
the Plaza de Toros Monumental. On
the outskirts, you?ll also pass by Lienzo
Charro, which has a strong
cowboy tradition. Finally, you?ll visit the
Triana neighborhood, which has produced many important bullfighters. The trolley departs Tuesday through Sunday at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The tour lasts about 50 minutes.
