RAFTING

The surrounding areas of Morelia have an important network of rivers and springs that feeds Lake Patzcuaro. Some of the rivers provide ideal conditions for whitewater rafting, particularly those that empty into the Umecuaro Dam.

Presa de Umecuaro ? Located 14 km (9 mi) southwest of Morelia. Some of the region?s most important rivers empty into this dam, such as Rio Grande de Morelia. The best time of year to visit is during the rainy season, between June and August, when the rapids are more challenging.
