MISSIONS
AND HACIENDAS
The peninsular regions in Baja California, in northwest
Mexico, and the Yucatan, in the southeast, offer two distinct
tours, both of which are full of adventure and culture. In Baja
California, you can visit
adobe constructions that were built as missions
during the colonial era. They were constructed
as part of a larger effort to
colonize the border territories and to lure
indigenous people to the Catholic
faith. In the Yucatan, you can visit old 19th- and 20th-century henequen haciendas. Today, many of the
haciendas have been converted into luxurious hotels offering a wide variety of tourist
services. In the surrounding areas, you can enjoy numerous
natural attractions, including
beaches, sinkholes, ecological reserves and Mayan archaeological zones.
