HUNTING
Mazatlan?s environs are ideal for those
who like hunting since the surrounding areas form part of key central and
Pacific migration routes. We recommend that you book your trip in advance and
that you only hunt in permitted areas.
Isla Redo. Located 200 km (124 mi) northwest of Mazatlan,
in front of Port Altata, off Highway 15. It is
18 km (11 mi) long and 1.5 km (1 mi) wide. It is mostly lowlands covered in
sand and small dunes, which provide great hunting grounds. Here you?ll find
attractive species such as the white-winged dove and the blue-winged teal.
La Isla Baradito.
Located about 180 km (111 mi) northwest of Mazatlan
and 60 km (37 mi) west of Culiacan. It comprises the Bocas del Estero
de El Tule and the Altata
Bay. This island is shaped like a half moon; it is 16 km (10 mi) long and
slightly more than 800 meters (less than 1 mi) wide. It is divided by a lagoon
and it has low sand dunes that are nesting grounds of the blue-winged teal, the
solitary sandpiper and the black-bellied whistling duck.
Isla San Juan. Located 160 km (100 mi) from Mazatlan
at Ensenada de El Pabellon,
where the Culiacan
River
empties. This island has little surface area, however
you can find species such as the blue-winged teal, the white-winged dove and
the mourning dove.
