Manzanillo hosts important sporting events, such as the various fishing tournaments that take place. These fishing competitions have become so prestigious that since 1957 this destination has been known as the Sailfish Capital of the World.

 

International Dorsey Tournament ? This competition, which takes place in November and February, has many years of tradition and is one of the most prominent fishing tournaments in the world. Participants win cash prizes for catching the biggest dorado, wahoo, marlin and sailfish.

 

Torneo Nacional de Pesca de Pez Vela (National Sailfish Fishing Tournament) ? This tournament usually takes place in February, however there is also an international version held in October and November. Prizes go to those who hook the largest tuna, marlin, dorado and sailfish.
