ENTERTAINMENT AND SPORTS EVENTS

 

Throughout the year Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo hosts diverse cultural and sporting events, such as regattas, fishing and surfing tournaments, and music and film festivals. If you?d like to attend the fishing tournaments (as a participant or spectator), it?s necessary to make plans in advance.

 

International Sailfish Fishing Tournament ? Held in the month of May. This event draws thousands of tourists from all over the world. Those participants with the biggest catches can win various prizes.

 

El Paraiso de los Niños ? Held in July, this event offers educational activities for children, such as film, storytelling and puppet shows, among others.

 

Etiquetar y Solar Fishing Tournament ? This fishing tournament is held in November. It has two categories: inshore and offshore. Participants compete to catch the biggest roosterfish, wahoo, yellowtail, sierra, houndfish, mahi mahi, skipjack, tuna, sailfish, blue marlin, black marlin and swordfish.

 

Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival ? This festival takes place at Zihuatanejo Bay in March and April. During the event, a wide range of musicians offer live performances, playing just about every kind of music you can imagine.

 

Karma Surf Tournament ? This surfing tournament is held in association with the Miss Bikini contest at Playa Las Escolleras in September. The tournament has been known to draw excellent surfers.
