On Isla Mujeres you
can visit a marine park and various coral reef areas that
are ideal for scuba diving at depths
of more than 10 meters (33 feet). Among the wide variety
of marine life that you can observe in this region are sponges, sea snails, sea urchins, manta rays, moray eels and
sharks.
Garrafon National
Park.
Located on the island?s southern end, 6 km (4 mi) from Isla Mujeres? downtown area, on
Av. Rueda Medina. Open daily from 8:00 to 5:00. This park
has a majestic coral reef where you can go scuba diving and snorkeling while
observing a wide variety of marine species that inhabit the waters.
Arrecife Manchones.
Lies 8 km
(5 mi)
south of the Isla Mujeres
pier. By boat, it is very close to the island?s southern end. This spot has a coral
bank that spans 12 km
(7 mi)
and is 700 meters
(2,320 feet)
wide. Here you can dive while observing
a wide array of marine flora and fauna.
Cueva de los Tiburones
Dormidos. This
diving location, surrounded by coral formations, lies east of Isla Mujeres. Here guides will accompany you through waters
inhabited by sharks.
El Farito. Lies north
of Islote Tiburon, close to the Isla
Mujeres pier This is a good
spot to scuba dive and snorkel in clear shallow waters. The coral formations
are inhabited by a wide assortment of fish.
Isla Contoy.
To arrive at this island, which lies north of Isla Mujeres, you?ll need to take a 30-km (19 mi) boat ride.
