ECOTOURISM

Ensenada?s environs have incredible natural settings, including forested and marine areas where you can do ecotourism outings.

Constitucion de 1857 National Park. Take Highway 3 about 72 km (44 mi) east of Ensenada, then follow a dirt road turnoff. At night you can enjoy starlit skies in this park, and during the day you can spy various animal species, such as bighorn sheep, mule deer, mountain cats, eagles, owls, hawks, ducks, herons and woodpeckers.

Sierra de San Pedro Martir National Park. Take the Transpeninsular Highway 1 236 km (146 mi) southwest of Ensenada, then follow the turnoff to San Telmo de Abajo. At this park you can visit the National Astronomy Observatory, which affords a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. In this area you can observe indigenous fauna, including bighorn sheep, pumas, black deer, as well as the rare California Condor, an endangered species.

La Bufadora. Located 37 km (23 mi) southwest of Ensenada, off Transpeninsular Highway 1. At these cliffs you can see an enormous tidal blowhole. The force of the waves crashing against the cliffs forces the seawater to shoot up 20 meters (66 feet) in the air.
