WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO DO?
Torreón
Arriving at the Internacional Airport of Torreón, board a taxi that will take you to the central
boulevard of Independencia so you can register at a
hotel. Begin your journey in the
historical city center, visiting its most important monuments like the Casino
de la Laguna, an impressive construction of Neoclassic
style that was the negotiation headquarters of the general Francisco Villa in
the times of the Mexican Revolution. Then go to the Centro Histórico
Eduardo Guerra, where you will find the Archivo
Municipal de Torreón (Torreón
Municipal Archives), and the Teatro (Theater) Isauro Martínez, one of the best
in the country, that is distuinguished
for its Moorish style architecture, just as the Neogothic
rosette that characterizes the Cathedral of Carmen. Also visit the Edificio Arocena, considered one
of the most flashy constructions in Torreón for its striking architectural design
dominated by elements of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. From there, do a little exercise and walk to
the foot of the Cerro de las Noas,
where you will find a majestic sculpture of Christ, 21.8
meters (72 feet) high,
that will leave you with your mouth open and the desire to taste
something typical of the city. In one of
the restaurants, order a fritada
(a cut of beef and veal), accompanied by a glass of wine. Head out of the city
and go towards Cuatrociénegas, where you can swim in
some of the pozos
(water caverns) of this protected area located 245
km (152 mi) from Torreón. Do not forget that
in this place you will come across the Pozo de la Becerra, a natural thermal spa found 230 km (143 mi) from Torreón. When you return to the city,
go out and have a good time! Go to the boulevard Independencia,
where you will find bars and nightclubs in which you can enjoy the flavor of
exquisite fruit liquors, and dance to the rhythm of the unmistakable Norteña music until the wee hours of the morning.
