WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO DO?
Ruta
del vino (wine route)
Starting
in the Valle de Guadalupe, a place of Mediterranean climate and okra and green
colored landscapes, located just 73 km (45 mi) southeast of Tecate, very close to the
northeast border of Mexico with the United States. The journey can be divided into 3 parts: the first
includes the valleys of Calafia, Guadalupe and San
Antonio de las Minas; the second, to the north,
through the Valle de las Palmas; and the third to the
south of Ensenada, in the Valle de San Vicente Ferrer.
Plan your trip to visit each one of these, we recommend the vineyards of
Guadalupe, since they will provide an overall vision of the area?s vineyard
production. In the beginning of the
route, you will discover that in this area alone there are around 50 wine
producing houses, from small family vineyards to large-scale factories that
moreover include restaurants, ranches and boutiques where you can find the
region?s finest liquors. Do not forget to enter some of the local restaurants
so that you can try exquisite dishes of meats and fowl, accompanied by a cup of
wine made with Merlot grapes. Near the wine cellars, you will discover a place
where you can rent mountain bikes which are an alternative for continuing the
trip. Rent one and make your way towards the waterfall area, where you will
visit the Arroyo de Guadalupe, a waterfall more than 30 meters (98 feet) high, and the Salto del Agua (Water Jump).
Afterwards, guide yourself to the thermal waters of San Antonio Nécua, in which you can submerge yourself and relax enough
to continue with a visit to a shop, where you can purchase a wide variety of
white and red wines that will surely help you to remember your visit fondly.
